What's In Our Range Bag?
When it comes to a good day at the shooting range, it’s impossible to overestimate the importance of having the right items in your range bag.
Forgetting to pack even the simplest item can ruin your day.
But you don’t want to clutter your bag with unnecessary items either.
Here’s our handy list of essential items to pack in your range bag.
Medical Kit
The number-one priority for a day at the range is a medical kit.
In fact, you might consider purchasing a convenient ankle medical kit or one that attaches to the headrest of your vehicle in addition to the one you carry in your range bag. Necessary items include:
- Gauze
- Medical tape
- A tourniquet
- Bandages in a variety of sizes
- A safety blade/shears
- Alcohol wipes
If you’re unsure about exactly what to include in your medical kit, you can always reach out to your local fire and rescue departments for guidance.
Safety Supplies
Ear and eye protection are must-haves for your range bag. This not only protects you, but those around you as well.
Without proper protection, debris or shell casings can easily get in your eyes, obscuring your vision and causing potential hazards for you and others at the range.
We like to bring along extra eye and ear protection in our bag just in case someone we’re shooting with accidentally forgets to bring their own.
Of course, if you do that, it means you have to remember to ask for it to be returned before you leave at the end of the day.
Paper Or Steel Targets
In most cases, you’ll find that the range provides targets for you to use. But it’s a good idea to bring some back-ups of your own just in case.
Steel targets are generally preferable, and should be fairly easy to pack in your range bag. However, some large custom-made paper targets are also a great option.
And to go along with that, don’t forget to throw in a staple gun to help with mounting.
What Else To Put In Your Range Bag
Other essentials we like to keep in our range bag are:
- Tools for fixing your firearm in case it needs repair or adjustment (such as a screwdriver, a multi-tool, and a Glock disassembly tool)
- A notebook and pen
- Gun oil
- A small cleaning kit which includes a steel cleaning rod and a cloth rag
- A roll of masking tape
- A small flashlight
- A Sharpie
- A shot timer
- Dummy rounds
- Extra magazines
Choosing the Right Range Bag
The firearm you take to the range is a valuable investment and one that deserves protection. To that end, look for a range bag that is durable enough to stand up to the elements.
Some range bags on the market even come with a handy cleaning mat, making it easy to clean your firearm at the range as needed.
It’s also a bonus if the range bag comes with plenty of convenient compartments to help you stay organized. That way you can locate whatever you need at the range more quickly, ensuring a successful day.
With the right range bag, carefully packed with the right items, you’re ready to enjoy all that the range has to offer.
